Why we build with heat pumps

Updated: October 2026

Locuim houses are heated by an 8 kW air-to-water heat pump dedicated to each house, with underfloor heating. No gas, no radiators.

How it works

The pump takes heat from the outside air and transfers it to the water in the floor. In normal operation it delivers several times more heat than the electricity it uses.

Monthly costs

In a well-insulated 105 m² house, the heat pump uses little energy, and the bill does not depend on the price of gas. The real cost depends on the temperature you keep at home, your electricity tariff and how cold the winter is.

Solar panels

The houses have space prepared for solar panels. A heat pump pairs naturally with them: the energy produced on the roof covers part of the pump's consumption, and in sunny months the cost of heating drops noticeably.

Why insulation matters

15 cm of insulation and triple-glazed windows reduce the energy needed for heating. The house holds its heat, and the temperature stays steady in every room. See the technical details.
